Acoustic Guitar Amplification Gear

I'd like to build a simple E.Q. and a D.I. box to use with a soundhole magnetic pickup when I plug into a p.a.   
Can anyone here provide some suggestions as well as schems/layouts for these?  I'm looking at Runoffgroove's Mr E.Q., which has a nice perfboard layout page.  Is there a similar perf or vero layout for a D.I.?
Maybe you could expand on the general theory of amplifying acoustic guitars, and some simple setups/ solutions as well.
