Suggestions for a bass gain pedal? anyone?

So,
now that my friends have figured out that I started building everyone wants a piece ^_^

A buddy of mine plays bass in like 80 bands and wants a "gain pedal that is more than just a boost, but not too crazy fuzzy or out of control"
I haven't really had any experience building for bass (I haven't had much experience at all really!) but I was wondering if anyone would have any inclination of what might be a good thing to try for him.
I have read a few things on the mods to make stuff more in the low end (input/output caps)  But that's really it...

so yeah, have at it!

Tube screamer with a slightly larger input cap, the "Fat Mod", and whatever chip sounds best to you.

I might go opposite of what gutsofglory posted about larger value input caps, reasons are in one or more of the threads

The function works well ...I used the term "bass overdrive" and got a couple pages of results.
