Are there any resources for the beginner in using this software ?

I have been playing with the Java version on a reasonably new imac, and I am really impressed. Having a parts library with exactly the parts you need is a big time saver.

I have been trying to open the .diy files on the website - http://www.storm-software.co.yu/diy/index.php?project=layouts
but it is not working - they are downloading as filename.diy.txt files and I have tried deleting the .txt suffix but that doesn't help. Has anyone else run up against this?

Thanks

Which version are you using? The new Beta or the older version? (I'm guessing the newer Java version since you're on imac). I believe the files online are made with/for the older version, hence they are unopenable (even a word?) with the newer version.

Maybe I will try the demo of Crossover http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/ (PC emulator) and see how the PC version runs on my mac.

I'm an apple user as well, and have run into the same issue as you with opening the .diy files on the site. Interestingly enough, I created a file, saved it, and was able to re-open it just fine. I suspect it's a version issue.

I've had the same problem myself. I'm on an intel MacBook Pro OS version 10.5.5

The java version of DIY Layout Creator is a beta, so I guess I can't expect it to be as full featured as the PC version. I tried to see if I could use CrossOver to run it on my mac but I couldn't get it going. I have laid out turret boards using the Appleworks draw program, and that is OK for schematics too, but I think it would be pretty awkward to use for PC board layout. I do have Adobe Illustrator, which would work, but there is a lot of things (trace size, pad size) to keep in mind that are done automatically in dedicated layout programs.
