A few questions about making EQ pedals (or rack version)

Ok, here they are:
When making an EQ pedal, whether a stompbox version or rack mount, whats the best way to cut the slots for the sliders? Best ideas I can come up so far is either to drill a small hole at each end of where the slider goes through the enclosure, then dremel the rest from one hole to the other. Or drill the 2 small holes and, using a guide, use a jig saw to cut the slot out. And of course in both cases, smooth it all out with some high grit emery cloth.
Anyone have any better ideas. I don't have a router, but I guess that could be another option.

Another question:
I was looking at an AMZ page here : http://www.muzique.com/lab/gyrator.htm
To quote "The higher the Q of the filter, the more narrow the passband will be. A typical 1/3 octave bandpass will have a Q of about 4.3 and a 2/3 octave filter Q value could be around 2.4. "
Now my question here is...If you have one of the sliders set for 110Hz (A) and its set up for the 1/3 octave, does that mean it will control frequencies from 100.915Hz to 120.005Hz (give or take a few Hzs) ?
The gap between the two being approximately 1/3 of an octave, with 110Hz being in the middle?

One last question:
Where to find decently priced rack mounted enclosures? I looked through my Mouser catalog, but the lowest priced pack mounted enclosure I saw in there was about $60.

Thanks

hello!

I tried to do this for some EQ panels on my multiFX board. trust me, you will not be happy with the results no matter what you try! I bought some Boss GE7 Eqs and gutted them, and once you take the little slotted panel off (which is a very small thin piece of metal with the levels printed on it) the actual enclosure is a just a square hole.

FWIW...i THINK the slots are 1" exactly long but i cant remember the width.

Im going to send off to Front Panel Express to cut the same size hole in a panel of metal for me and just glue the little metal piece ontop and mount the EQ unit underneath.

with enough time and patience, you could download the software and design exactly what you want as far as how many slots etc...

sjaltenb, I was thinking about doing it that way, but thought it would be a to flimsy, slotting a small thin piece of metal. I have lots of thin aluminum, about 1.5 - 2.0 times the thickness of a soda can.
But I guess if Boss does it that way, it can't be all bad.
