i'm playing around with fuzz circuits and some like the Tone Bender MkII are positive ground

question:
do i actually have to connect the 9V+ lead to the casing of the pedal or the + and - battery wires go on the board and the casing and in/out jacks grounds stay independent (casing ground not connected to power)?

+9vdc would go everywhere that ground would be on a negative-ground pedal, so yes, the chassis, jack ground lugs, etc get +9vdc.

That's why you can't share an un-isolated power supply with these kinds of pedals, as +9 would short to ground if you did.
