I was wondering if there is a list somewhere of the most common components used in DIY FX?
Basically, I am wanting to order some things like resistors and capacitors in bulk but I want to order the most common components.
Does such a list exist?

There isn't a list, but there's something like this

i suggest that, if you have a specific build or 2 in mind order the parts you need for them and then look for value packs or grab bags to fill out your bins. there are a few places that sell them. you may get a few random values here and there but as you get more comfortable with building you'll find places to use them.

The French connection

I know, but the pedal i built does not boost...it just increases volume!

Hi! Here's really cheap bulk price.

Can't beat that at all... I do bench stock orders with Futurlec about once every couple months to fill in holes of stuff I need... Everytime I order from them I get a couple of grab bags like those...
It's rediculous how cheap it is and how much you get in those bags.

Of course, as stated before, it does take about an eon to get an order from them since they ship from taiwan, but it's still worth it.

Also, I can't really make a full list of stuff you need, but there are a few things which seem to be common in most recipes.

1k, 4.7k, 10k, 82k and 1 meg resistors
.1, .01, .047 caps
2n5088's, 2n3404 (common npn, and pnp trannies)
1n914 diodes
3pdt stomp switches
stereo and mono jacks
1k, 10k, 100k, 1 meg (either linear or audio type) pots

I could go on and on, but these are the things that I blow through faster then I realize... well maybe not the trannies, but everything else.

But as stated above, it's a good idea to get an idea of a few builds you want to do and stock up for those and then build around those parts you have.
I started this about 6 months ago and had NO idea how many components I was going to have to get.. but then again, if I see part X in one recipe, I tend to order at least a dozen of them to make sure I don't have to wait in the future  :icon_biggrin:

Also... one more thing that is pretty damn cool.  Michael's (yes, the craft store which I hate to walk into because I feel like a 50 year old woman)
sells these molded plastic (non changable) 15 slot containers.  They are transparent and cost $1.99 a piece.  I went and bought like 6 of them to organize all my parts.
totally invaluable.  I hate the ones with the movable dividers because they always seem to pop up and parts get mixed together.

OK!  no more rambling.. I could go on for days  :icon_neutral:
