My friend will give me the 2 switches in his Morley if i can make it into a hum free splitter. He needs it to split his signal into 2.

In theory if i remove the PCB then connect the hots to each other and the grounds to each other then the signal would split. I need to know if this will be hum free and work. If it works i get two swicthes a fully loaded PCB and two swicthes. Also any suggestions to make any mods to this for cheap will be accepted. He likes LED lights alot for some reason. Had me mod some of his stuff with diffrent colored LEDs. hint hint :icon_rolleyes:

Two problems with doing it that way.

1) It won't (necessarily) be hum free - with the three grounds connected together you're setting yourself up for a big ground loop. You should either use a transformer to isolate (at least) one output (it'll likely need a driver such as an op-amp follower) or there's a clever way to do it with active circuitry; www.geofex.com has the details.

2) You'll be heavily loading the previous stage which will have to drive both outputs. If that's a guitar then it'll struggle and you'll lose treble and volume. Better to buffer before the split to avoid this.

3) (yes, I know I said two problems) Directly connecting the two outputs means that the devices on those outputs will have their inputs connected. That can cause problems in itself if they're not well engineered.

As mentioned there's a hum free splitter on the Geofex site. Well worth a  look.
