the fact that he asked you to ship in static wrap first tips me off to a scam, because that's his "out" for the scam- he can claim he asked you and you didn't, so it's your fault it's now worthless and he gets his money back.  Ebay doesn't know what electronic stuff is sensitive and what isn't so they'll side with him based on communication evidence.  He banks on the fact that 99% of the people won't ship in bubble wrap.

I agree with an above post, a big eff you in is order.

i work in a electronic man. and we always ship units in anti-static wrap this will stop energy getting into the box. The friction of the case moving around in a box will generate energy which can zap circuits.  please research more on ESD  for the rest of the story...peace minatour87

I don't believe any of my newer boss pedals ever shipped in anti-static bags, and I received them just fine. I've got a few older Ibanez pedals as well, and they're still alive and kicking. If they're so delicate, you'd think I would have zapped them by now.

I have been in the CMOS semiconductor field for ~12 years, ICs you do need to wrap, but usually once the IC is in circuit, you don't have to worry too much.  I have seen ESD zaps, and I bet if he takes the pedal back, he can easily tell if it is an ESD zap or something with a bad adaptor.

I would suggest a clearly indicated  "all sales final- no returns" policy in the future. My wife was selling some books and got the "I never got it in the mail" response from one customer. It's always the same - "we were on vacation when it was sent" or "I listed the wrong address by mistake" yada yada... It wasn't much money and she was trying to build feedback so she gave a refund- that time... You live & learn with auction sites though. And Ebay is making it harder all the time for sellers to be treated fairly.

I'm getting ready to sell a few items and I may add a clause for "not responsible for buyer not having their sh*t together- if item not shipped, any complications will cancel the deal - if item shipped, any complications are buyer's responsibility..." :icon_wink: :icon_wink:

Ship your items with a return receipt so the receiver has to sign for any packages.

Ebay can be a good place to find things, but unfortuantely it's not only caveat emptor, it's everyone emptor.

Don't even get me started with Ebay, its like the wild west.  Some people are reputable, some not.   Its definitely a scam or not the right power supply.   I have a friend that is a manager in the accessories at GC for 10 years and he has never heard of that issue.   And BTW, the customer is not always right.   If you have that attitude then you will go out of business.   I used to own a restaurant and you should see some of the scams people pull to get free food.   The customer is right within normal reason and expectation.

I modded a pedal for a UK forumite a few years ago.  When I sent it back it didn't work right.  The effect was permanently engaged and was noisy.  After a lot of emails I finally found out he was using some cruddy, unregulated DC supply.  I only traced the part of the circuit I needed to mod, so to this day have no idea why the switching (using a 4007 chip) was latching, but when he bought a regulated supply intended for use with audio equipment, all was well.

Ask the guy what supply he's using.

If you think it's a scam and you think the buyer as someone else said will ship you back a bad pedal and keep the good one, tell him that he can ship it back to you but that you marked it somewhere on the circuit board or the inside or something so that you will know without a shadow of a doubt if it's the same pedal you shipped to him.  If he decides to not send it back at that point, you definitely know something's up.

i think it's not a scam, Gez post is right on with the pedal's problem, just answer him (in an affirmative and sure tone) that he's using a bad PSU and that is the cause of the problem, that he should change it and the problem might go away and that if the damage is permanent it's not your fault but his... it would be fairer that an effff you, if he litigates with ebay your answer will make look better than an efff you...

Hey everyone!!

thanks for all the helpful replies! As soon as he said it didnt work i shot him back a nasty note telling him that  i knew plenty about electronics and just didnt believe that this could be so, and told him to stop being so rude.

well, that night he said "you'll never believe it but it works....blah blah" and he left me + feedback and apologized
