For searoad (http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=36392.msg594496#msg594496) and maybe others interested:

Even delay time 4.1ms at 4MHz clock (shortest "surround" mode, 500kHz sampling frequency) and clock adjustable up to cca 22MHz sounded promising in datasheet, real chip (at least mine) is not able to run this mode at higher frequency than ca 7MHz (above this frequency only noise is produced), shortest time achieved is 2.4ms - too much for full range flanger :(

Did anybody else exprerimented with PT2398?

Just for the record:

  • It's not true, that only noise is produced as I have stated originally - true is, that signal still goes thru all the time for full range (up to 22-23MHz ~ 0.7ms), but from above 7MHz (2.4ms) very strong noise is added to output signal - strong enough, to make it useless
  • I have bought second piece of PT2398 and it behaves exactly same

Sorry to bump an old thread....

However, if the PT2398 can achieve a clean 2.4 ms delay, then it might make an ideal static delay circuit for a through-zero flanger project.  One big advantage over a BBD is that the vastly different clock frequencies would not produce any nasty aliasing, relaxing the filtering requirements.

I did "offer" the PT2398 for TZF (or similar use) already few times at diystompboxes, but nobody seemed to be interested - main reason will probably be that PT2398 is not widely available..
