Using a mini tube or 12au7 for clipping diodes?

Has anyone tried this? I don't know if there would be such a tone difference from regular diodes in something like a Tube Screamer. Maybe it would be more cosmetic (and pricey) than anything, but I'm a tube-lover so I just have to know. I suppose I'll give it a shot when I get the time. I'm just curious if anyone else has beat me to it, and if the results were really worth it..

Yes, bradd lustfünd did it on this board.
He made a tube overdrive based on a MXR Distortion+ type of circuit and used 12AL5 tube diodes.

There are some threads about the subject here with some helpful background information, but sadly the finished schematic seams to have vanished.
