What else can you do with submini's?

Well, I bought myself a few 6011's for a distortion pedal/preamp build, but I bought a lot of 4 and my project only takes 2.  So I have two extras and I was wondering what else could be done with these and if anyone has any references for the projects.  I am thinking something not overdrive/distortion related.  I  know that there are tube tremolos and tube compressors.  Anything else?  If there are submini power tubes, then I might consider doing a classic amp design but with subminis.  But what I think would be really awesome is a submini version of summit's TLA-50 (too bad I can't find any schems for that).

So my question basically is what other projects are there besides distortions that submini's could be put into and are there any submini power tubes?

The 5672 I use is a pentode power amplifier: http://frank.pocnet.net/sheets/127/5/5672.pdf

There are other submini pentode power amplifiers with higher output on this list, they seem rare though: http://pw2.netcom.com/~wa2ise/radios/penciltubes.html

Vibrato and phasing should be possible too: http://www.ax84.com/bbs/index.php?id=292675

So could one use the 5672 in some sort of push/pull configuration?  I would want them to run relatively clean and use the 6111's to provide the distortion.

I guess I am just wanting to see what others have done or thought about. I have read most of your stuff, Rick, and that is some very impressive tubeness going on.

My next breadboard amp experiment will be exactly that, two 5672 in push/pull config, 6111 as preamp/cathodyne phase inverter, Hammond 125A O/T.

Just have a look at some P/P amp schematics. Here's one: http://www.jjs.at/electronic/class_ab_subminiature.html There are loads more about if you look.

The downside of the 5672 is it's maximum voltage limit, which is quite low. With tubes volts=volume.

I also have some 7327 dual triodes, which can take nicely high voltage, so I'm also going to try a P/P using them and a variation of this P/S: http://www.ledsales.com.au/kits/nixie_supply.pdf

Subminis are just tubes, no more no less - I guess you could take just about any amp schematic and build it with subminis.

Would you just replace a schematic's original tube with the submini or would component changes be necessary?  Let's assume that the power supply is not a concern in this context, so dealing just with the audio path, really.  I have seen at ampgarage that people have done a submini version of the trainwreck express and that interests me, as does a tube preamp of some sort (mic, bass, whatever).

Got a breadboard? The best thing you can do is breadboard an amp design using subminis and see how it sounds. Then start tweaking. You might not have to change anything. But change a few things anyway just to see what difference it makes.

A breadboard is THE best investment you will make in electronics. I don't build anything without breadboarding it first. Subminis are so easy to bradboard with too.

I do have a breadboard, but a somewhat small one, but it might accomodate a decent amp.  I did notice that the leads on the 6111's are particularly nice.  Also, for submini's, are the pinouts as viewed from the bottom or the top?

You should get a bigger one. I do all my work on this:

Here's Dano's Subcaster with easy read pinout:

That is one slick looking breadboard.  I may have to get myself something like that.  Dano's layout illustrates it perfectly.
