You could try it with a 500k or 1M too... basically it just replaces the volume knob on your guitar, so you feed your amp less signal and thusly, your amp is 'cleaned' up.  It's really so you don't have to use your hands to turn down the volume on your guitar.

Good point, besides when you're dealing with something this simple there's not really much need for mods.
