just a quick question. Can I replace 510K with 470K resistors? I don't have 510K and I went to local electronic store which is really far two days in a row and kept forgetting. im so dumb.....

thanx

You're probably okay with 470K.  You could also come close to a 510 with a 470K and a 47K in series.

thank you. i also searched on forum with better key words and found lots of answers!

Look at it this way- everyone rags on air guitar here because everyone can play guitar.  If we were on a lawn mower forum, air guitar would be okay and they would ridicule air mowing.

also one more thing.

which one is better instead of 1uf NP?
1uf polyester film, 1uf tantalum, 1uf multilayer ceramic or 2 electro in series to get 1uf?

thanx!

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

cool
they all work though? i only have one polyester.

StereoKills

You can use the polyester or the ceramic, but not the tantalum or electro.

thanx you.
ceramic and poly do they have a big sound difference?

StereoKills

The poly film is less noisy, but most likely you won't notice much of a difference. Certain areas of the circuit are more sensitive to noise so some people prefer to use higher grade caps and resisters there. I'm not sure what areas, still a new to the diy stompbox scene.

i c. thanx evan. i guess i will go with ceramic since i have tons.

StereoKills

No problem. Personally I feel that something meant to have gain and noise such as a distortion works just fine with ceramic caps. If you were doing a project where you wanted crisp clean tones like a delay or what have you, poly film would be the way to go.

You're losin' the mojo, baby! Now put that 40k back in there and you'll feel better about yourself...

Just kidding. :icon_mrgreen:

If it helps you don't even need 1uF caps, anything over about 0.22uF should sound the same for the one before the clipping stage. For the one before the volume pot you can probably go even smaller.
