I went to see Apem today.

They make switches - www.apem.co.uk - including the original Marshall DPDTs.

It was most interesting - they were very friendly and helpful and sent me away with an enormous number of samples. Even better, though, was the enormous amount of information I got out of it. I'd taken along some of the switches I use regularly and it was fascinating to see them compared with Apem's equivalents, with the explanations of why various features were different. Also things like the correct contact type for particular jobs (specifically gold vs silver contacts). I was up-front about my annual turnover and such and still they were most accomodating.

They're now investigating making a 3PDT and 4PDT footswitch - apparently it could be quite simple to change the switchblock on "the Jim Marshall switch" to a triple or quad pole block.

Also I found out - and yes, I am a bit slow - how to wire a DPDT on-on-on as a SP3T.

Having compared the Apem toggles with the Taiways I've been using I will be switching over as soon as I've used up my current stock. Anyone want 25 DPDT on-on toggles and 10 3PDT on-on toggles? ;)

I'm also planning on using their LED indicators, which are quite lovely things. More expensive than the chromed brass bezels and giga-bright LEDs I use at the mo but quite lovely.

Too bad that I cannot find the Apem products I'm interested in in small quantities....   they have nice stuff for sure when checking out their site...

The catalogue is a vast and initially confusing thing - there are so many variations!

The place I visited today apparently has stock of around 3 million switches. Farnell and RS stock some, or you can buy direct, but I think they said the minimum direct order was £50.
