so i opened up a elka rhapsody string machine that I picked up super cheap and found that two of the audio output jacks have disintegrated

the jacks in bits looked like mono jacks (i think) with one wire going to the tip of the input jack and a second short wire joining the two rings and a third wire connected to the tip on the second jack (hope thats clear)

so I popped in two new jacks wired in this way but all i get is hum

my question is could the original jacks be isolated from the casing? my replacement defiantly are making electrical contact with the case

they look similar but without being able to re assemble the old ones I cant test my theory   ::)

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm!!

I'm a bit of a vintage keyboard collector, it would sit well in my collection. Maybe on top of the Rhodes?

Cool! I dont know much but i bet they put this for switching between two output so when something is plug in it switch on or off the other output and vice versa. Like a headphone output and a speakers output...Just follow the tab and you'll see what i'm saying, i hope so! :D

"Piano Out" could mean lower output level - Elka is an Italian company, piano is Italian for "soft" or "quiet".  At least they would know what they were talking about, unlike Leo Fender, who permanently confused the meanings of tremolo and vibrato for all music-loving Americans.  Just a suggestion.

damn that no good LEO !

good suggestion will test it when i get the synth up and running
