Question about bass pre-amps, flipster in particular

I was wondering, since I am probably going to be building a flipster for my bass playing friend, whether these sort of pre-amps are meant for using live too, like on a pedal board, not just for recording.
Also, for anyone who has build a flipster, what would you say are its strong points? for instance, do you like it more for its clean or boosted sound, what about it do you really love? I hope this makes up for not being able to test it in person. Any sound clip besides the one on ROG would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I built one recently, but I haven't had the chance to use it too much.  I really like the fact that you can get just a little bit of overdrive on it.  I have found that it doesn't have quite the pristine clean that my FET version of the F-2B has, but it has a character all it's own.  I use it straight into the soundcard, but I would think it would be perfectly suitable for playing live.

OK, thanks for the input!

Have a look at Moosapotamus' site and check the Acoustic 360+ preamp samples. Not incredibly simple, but sooo nice...
Might be worth considering. I know I like it.

i am trying the flipster with very subtle overdrive, and changed its first stage to a compressor to push it into punchy OD
