How close is "close enough"?

Does anyone use pre-made boards to build circuits that are close but not the same?

I was thinking of using a AMZ multi/mosfet board for a SHO and a BSIAB for a BOR.

Does it make life easier?

I haven´t tried, but i would gues an SHO would be at least as easy to build on perf...

I guess i'm wondering because, i just built one and its very sloppy. I want things to be as robust as possible.

Modding a PCB is something you do when you're out of choices and desparate, not when you're planning a project.

but i'm refering to cases where the circuit i want to build is simpler, and so the mods would be jumpers. It seems like it would be easier to populate a PCB than to wing it with perfboard.

What you really have to ask yourself is. If i own a computer is it easier / cheaper to make my own pcb or buy one and modify it to work ? If you have access to a laser printer you can buy all the equipment and chemicals and pcb material for less than £30 and this will get you pro quality PCB's

PS. that will get you a pcb sheet A4 size (photoresist type) probs big enough to make about 20 ish pcbs

thanks for the suggestion. PCB making is not something I'm interesting in learning right now. I just wanted to know if anyone did this, i guess not.

Yes it is an option if the circuits are similar and also quite simple circuits, there is a pcb available from GGG i think that allows you to build either a mxr dist+, a DOD250 or a DS1. So i don't see why you shouldn't modify another pcb for another . good luck with your project.

The only one who can answer that question is you. You have to sit down and do the work of comparing the thing you want to build with the board layout you are considering using and what modifications that would require.

Esp for a SHO, just comparing the layouts would be too much work for me. I could perf one up in less than 5 minutes.
