The recent V847A Vox wah is made in China, not by Dunlop as the previous V847 model was.  It has a bunch of surface mount components in it, and can be differentiated from the older model by the addition of a the adapter jack, which the older model doesn't have.  The older model is easier to mod, the usual pot and inductor mods will make it sound better, along with the the true bypass mod.  I modded mine using the instructions at FuzzCentral, and it sounds great now.  The newer Chinese one will be a lot harder to mod due to the surface mount stuff.  If you have the older model, I suggest you mod it to the Clyde specs as detailed at FuzzCentral, and then go from there if you want more out of it.  I would also look into the Lyon by Washburn wah, which is also made in China but has the same board as a Dunlop Crybaby, it sounds good out of the box, can be easily modded, and has an LED.  I got one on Ebay for $22 (new), they sold at Walmart or something for $70.  It's a great platform for cheap mods.

I have the SMD one

It's going to be pretty difficult to mod that. I have a couple of extra GCB-95 circuitboards lying around if you are interested in picking up one to tweak. It should drop right into your Vox wah shell.

Here is also a couple of things that could be done to the GCB-95:

Are they populated?

Yes. They are stock PCBs pulled from working wah pedals. I needed some wah shells for projects...  :icon_wink:
