Hi all. I just finished a General Guitar Gadgets Fuzz Face (late 60's boutique version, PNP). I got it working with the Si transistors included with the kit and used it like that for a few days while I was waiting for the Ge units from Small Bear.

I installed the Ge units, used the recommended resistor values and adjusted Q2 to 4.5 v with the trimmer. The sound was definitely different, much smoother. I actually found myself missing the craggly, sort of erratic sound from before. So I adjusted the trimpot outside of the 4.5v setting until I liked what I heard.

Has anyone else found that their FF was almost too smooth and buttery and then adjusted for it? Is this just wrong or what?

Thanks

If you think about the kind of things a lot of people think of as good tone - I think you'll find that you'll be at odds with a lot of it.

People usually want buttery robben ford tone.. and will try to coax it out of everything, including fuzzes (even though being kind of nasty is what fuzzes DO)
