Howdy, Folks- Time for another dumb post from lil' ol' me. :)

What's the concept behind the Bow-wow Yoy-yoy (Schaller Schematic). I built one using the schematic here:

http://www.diyguitarist.com/Schematics/BowWowYoyYoy.gif

I expected it to have more of a sharper Q when the inductor to ground was engaged. I'm not that great at interpreting how things will sound based on schematics, but my build sounds not much different from a standard wah on either setting. I did increase the value of the range capacitor just because it sounded better - sort of like a Maestro Boomerang but not quite as gooshy-lovemuffin sounding.

Am I missing something? I did note on Aaron's page with a link to a Bow-Wow Yoy-Yoy schematic that pointed out a possible error, but the schematic I used appeared to have correct that error. (I believe it may have been Paul Marossey's schematic.)

So far my fave wah is the Boomerang, but I'd really like to try a different wah sound and i expected this to be radically different. Any opinions????

i have an original schaller wah wah-yoy yoy. dont know if its the same thing you are building. i could stick up gut shots if it would be helpful.

Hi John

There exist a few different versions of that yoy-pedal afaik and I don't know if they all sound alike, anyway here's a short sample of mine, which is named Schaller Wha-Wha Yoy-Yoy and can work as a volume pedal too. I hope that gives you some kind of reference.

Thanks, folks. I'll review these things this evening, and see how the character of the circuit I cobbled together compares to the others. -J

wow, mine sounds very different from the sound sample. It has some of the same characteristics, but mine still sounds more like a regular wah. I'm going to find/try some other schematics for this circuit, because I really like the filter sounds on the clips. The sound clip is pretty much exactly what I was hoping to achieve. It's so weird - and once again I'm not that experienced at being able to look at a schematic and telling what it's going to sounds like - but the two inductors together do seem to do what I expected at least in your sound clips. :) Definitely not in my build, though. :) Thanks so much!!

Maybe it's also good to mention I got mine second hand some years ago, in it's original state. The pot wasn't scratchy and still isn't, which is one of the things I appreciate about this pedal. The yoy is nice, however the word is imho not a very accurate onomatopoeia for the sound I hear. Not to nitpick about the name - if Schaller had logo'd it coo coo yap yap it would still be fine by me - but it just makes me wonder if it's possible that the voicing may have changed some over the years. Btw, there's a photo together with another sound sample of the same pedal as mine at http://www.michaelpeters.de/brokencup.htm .
