I don't know if anyone knew this but on boss pedals with three knobs like the blues driver they use the golden triangle to position them. I noticed because i was using it to position my three knobs and they line up exactly with boss.

Just thought it was interesting sorry for wasting your time.

Oh no! You've crack the code! Watch your back, they're coming!

Seriously, it's interesting but it must be an accident. I think it's more an optimisation problem (how to place 3 pots; two big an a smaller one, equally separated...on a planar surface) than a basic desire of applying the law of alchemist. You know what's funny with the golden ratio, is when you want to see it you'll see it everywhere...Cool to know anyway!

Thanks!

Dan
I know, but the pedal i built does not boost...it just increases volume!

I suspect it's as simple as the known fact in art circles that the human mind likes the golden ratio. Given freedom to place things, us humans tend to put them in close approximation to the ratio. It could well be that one of Boss' engineers had some art classes too.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

OK, so Google is our Friend and I found "golden ratio," but no luck on golden triangle.  How 'bout a pic so we can all be more Feng Shui, or Yogariffic, and get into our happy place as we twiddle our knob(s)?

There is a little diagram I knocked up quickly. The formula says that the ratio between two lengths is equal to the ratio between the biggest length and the sum of the two lengths. and there is only one real solution to that formula and it is the golden ratio.

Wow! This is really funny:

Pearl Drums positions the air vents on its Masters Premium models based on the golden ratio. The company claims that this arrangement improves bass response and has applied for a patent on this innovation.  ::)
