HB's -> Ruby; how to tone it down a notch?

So it's hard to get any decent headroom on the ruby when running a guitar with humbuckers in it. Is there anything that can be done to help give it more headroom? Besides running it on 12v's (done already)? Also note that the bassman mods are used.

I've tried, and I don't believe there's any way to get a 'clean sound' out of it at any decent volume.  Although speaker selection can help.

Would running it at higher voltages (e.g. 12v) help? That is if your components are rated for the voltage you would want to try it at.

It helps a little bit, but mines still pretty distorted at any reasonable volume.

Stick a little cap in the input wire [splice] to reduce the bass. This will reduce the current through the speaker and amp, the LF response can overwhelm @ 9v.
12v supply can increase headroom and thermal dissipation.
