faux Ge treble booster?

Hi,

Has anyone ever seen, done, or know of a Rangemaster type treble boost, using a SILICONE tranny, but modded to mimic a germanium tranny?

Similar to the Fuzzface mods often done to sili clones. My favorite being Justin's on http://fuzzcentral.ssguitar.com/axisface.php

In some respects I like it better than than my Ge.

So I'm wondering if anyone has ever attempted this for a Rangemaster. I think it'd be kinda neat!

Hi
you could "piggyback" two silicon devices (e.g. TIP31s, BD139s) to get nice low hFE and high capacitance.
Use the seach function to find out about piggybacking.

thanks, but I have a few ideas how to go about it, was just curious to see if anyone had given it a try already.

Anyone?

Thanks, but thats still not what I mean (not trying to sound snotty). I mean approaching it like the "Axis Face" on fuzzcentral http://fuzzcentral.ssguitar.com/axisface.php

I know there are a few silicone treble boosters out there, but I mean specifically trying to mimic a Ge tranny with a Si. Shaving spikyness with small value caps, low gain si trannys etc.

It's not that I can't afford to order a pre-measured ge tran from small bear, it just seemed like an interesting idea. I thought for sure I wasn't the first to think of it. And FYI, I know you can just pop an Si in there and tweak the resistors to rebias, but what I mean is seeing how close to a great vintage rangemaster you can get "faking" it with an Si using the same basic circuit as the RMaster (with tweaks of course).

Maybe it's a waste of time, but thats never stopped many of us before!

Hi
RE:

Cutting highs with the bypass cap is a good start, but you'll also want a "starved" low hFE transistor.  That's what piggybacking a couple of power transistors will do.  The hFE will be working in the "knee" region of the hFE vs Ic curve.

But don't believe me.  Socket the Q in a Rangemaster and try both a 2N2369A and a pair of piggybacked TIP31s or BD139s, and take your pick !
