this is odd.. 69 clone

get some smallbear trannies, gains of 110 and 145, put them in, weak and farty fuzz (110 in q1) no matter how I set the bias pot, or how cold the room is

replace Q2 with a junk transistor with a gain of 60 TOPS... and all of a sudden I have massive fuzz :o

You are taking into consideration the leakage?
Monkey see, monkey do.

unidive

smallbear takes leakage into account when he labels the gain

I'm just assuming my mystery tranny has the gain I need by virtue of it working - but the datasheet also tells me that they tend to max out at 60

post voltages, bias pot in 69 is just an input attenuation of the signal if i am not mistaken, nothing to do with bias.

unidive

oh, my "bias" is not the input bias, it's the collector of q2 bias

q2 is at 5 volt, q1 is volt or less at the collector
