wow. Yeah, even despite the SS amp, it sounds great!

What kind of transformer options would work for something like this? That's the one aspect of amp/preamp building that keeps me shy of it--transformers are just kind of intimidating.

also, how do you breadboard your tube circuits? breadboard adaptor tube socket?

I am using a transformer with dual 120V primaries and dual 12V secondaries. You could use some larger but the way I set up my transformer heater wiring was simple. All non-lethal voltages.

You can see the design on the bread board here http://pdfelectronics.com/top_drive.htm

ok--cool. Yeah, man, that's a really nice project!

There's nothing quite like tweaking something to perfection, no matter how long it takes :)

That sounds real nice. Especially into the SS amp. Thanks for the detailed writeup! What voltage are the tube plates at?

Nice!
Sounds good, seems like it produces a good variety of tones.
I really like the clean sound.
Something to be proud of that's for sure.

Ok I am not a recording tech an no guitar wizard. I managed to somehow increase floor noise. Playing isn't the best but your listening to the tone right

I talk a bit to try and explain the settings. You'll have to turn up your volume to hear me.

Anyways very easily tweak able design, if there is some portion of the sound you don't like it is generally a quick fix.

Very Sweet sounding!  I like the break up when you strum hard and cleans up nicely when you pick soft.
I like your renditions of SRV about 3/4 of the way thru the clip.  (that was SRV? right?)  :D

Great job!!

Ya was kinda SRV, was kinda playing Tell Me, then a Lenny type thing at the end.

Thanks!

I was contacted a while ago by someone at another place about getting professional PCBs made. Dual sided, silk screened, solder masked, the whole works. Anyways the protos have been made and I am testing it. The production boards still haven't been made. If you would like one they are going for $13 shipped. Right now about 50 are being made, the price could go don more if more people order. PM me if interested.

Here's what the proto looks like (the production boards will be a bit different, wider traces in some areas and a few other minor things that will make the build easier to build and more clear)

(still missing some big filtering caps)

Also I have made a revision to the finalized Gerber schematic so you can build the preamp to more "Dumble esque" style. Includes 4 new features that will be made accessible with push pull pots as well as a few minor changes to the original circuitry.

On production PCBs?

They are being made now. A new PSU was designed, higher B+ and runs cooler.
