What part do you suppose Nte458 is when it's not an NTE?

 Recent post got me thinking...
I still love my Dragonfly Sparkleboost. Great booster.

So, I would like to build another and also dick around with the NTE458 that it seems dependant on. Thing is, my local rip-off shop sells the NTE for an astonishing $4-50 per unit. I have build it with the cross-reference J201 but it's really not the same.
Given that most NTE parts are re-branded, what part do you suppose Nte458 is when it's not an NTE? What could I try?

This maybe a possible match:

Go here and plug this one I suggested into the search window.

Yeah, thanks for reminding me of those.
Definitely going to order a bunch of Japanese trannies next order.

I  wish the NTE cross referencer would work in reverse and reveal all the matches for their stuff.
From memory they tend to throw themselves a pretty wide net with their matches.

Me too, but I guess they wouldn't sell many parts. :icon_mrgreen:
It pi$$e$ me off when the supplier I go to only has the NTE version of what I'm looking for. Too damed expensive :icon_evil:

I don't remember what JFET Andrew's used on his original Sparkleboost schematic ( what I mean is was it really a NTE 458  ??? ).  Is this the NTE equivalent that you are giving or the original that was designed with ?

Toney

 Yep, specified part was NTE458.
J201 was possible suggested replacement but does not sound as good to my ears, and was noted as such by Dragonfly.

OuKay,
Now, we perhaps have some kind of problem if the J201 is included in the 458 specifications because NTE's is kinda "big ensemble" of parts in a single number...

There was also an other schematic he left before quitting (roots in the Tillman thread (and the app notes that were in these replies): I wish he was here to take credit for what he had done... -and also wish the best for him, there was a big open hole when he left...- ).
