Anybody know where to find an LED/lens that looks similar to a Fender amp jewel?

I'm not totally sure what you have in mind, but I'd suggest a non-diffused type -- just look for fairly low current.

I'll supply a link shortly...

check the page that's on for more....

BTW, I really enjoyed your MKI build!

OR you could be like Peavey on their VB-2 bass amp: they use a Fender jewel in the front panel, then just pop an LED in behind the jewel instead of a light bulb...

If somebody makes a mistake, help them understand what went wrong.  Show them how to do it right.  Be helpful.  Don't just say "you're wrong, moron."

I do this on a lot of my pedal builds. Works great! Even made some plastic discs to hold the led in place, and close the back of the jewel (just a circle with 2 holes in it...), then I hot glue it. I get the amp jewels from eBay in lots - a lot cheaper than getting them from fender.

I've thought of just using an actual fender jewel with an LED, but how could I keep the LED in place?  Do you have any pics of your builds gmr1?

Go to Home Depot or other place with plumbing supplies. Get a package of epoxy putty. This stuff is two bars of filled epoxy which you knead together to make a putty which then sets into rock-hard plastic. Sculpt up the parts you need.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

You can use the cross ref.  I believe the bulb is a #47 in the fender holder.  Not DIY but an interesting site

I think this is the base

That's a good idea.

I just cut a circle out of plastic, the size of the bottom of the jewel, poked 2 holes in it for the led legs to fit through, and glued it on the bottom. I'll try to take a pic, but it pretty much is what it is. Now I'm thinking I could probably sneak the led's resistor in there as well, and just have the leads coming out of the bottom.

I wish I had more but I salvaged this from some 60's lighting controller.
The cool thing is that it's fairly flush with the box as opposed to the fender
jewels which sit up a good bit and look kind of lame IMO.
I filled the hollow of the inside of the jewel with clear epoxy and then
pushed in a red LED until it set. There is a washer around the
jewel actually because I f*cked up the hole and got it off center  >:(

Grind down a fender jewel maybe?
