So, I had a score of superbright 10mm led's recently ( $0.25 each- I paid way more for the mounting bezels) and I wondered why nobody uses them in stompboxes? I haven't tried them yet (except to test them) but I was wondering why nobody uses them? Do they create pops, noise etc? Or is it just the physical dimensions?

They're too awesome.  People can't handle 'em.

Seriously though, if they're just like the 3mm and 5mm type except for the lens/case, they should function identically to the others.  Probably people stay away from them because they don't know about them, or the larger size makes the extra expense of bezels a bit more necessary.

No one uses them because they're too big and there's no room for them in these insanely small enclosures we're all using now: http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=64752.0

Huge. Obnoxiously bright. I think the LED actually sold this pedal for me  :D

Nitefly, that enclosure looks really nice - where did you get it?

Theyre kind of a hassle to work with but if you like the look they are the only place to get them readymade.

I use 10mm brights to drive the LDR's, the 1k L .5M D, I use which are about the same size, 10mm accross. For the 100K L 10M D LDR's I use the 5mm brights... after flattenings off the tops, of the LED's.

Are they red? Use em to drive LDR's.  I think these sound best in the uglyface for example.

In Finland I sought quite long for 10mm bezels, heres a pic of a Trem Lune fitted with 10mm LED through a 8mm inlet rubber. Now I have found 10mm bezels, but they are quite tall inside the box, for my next application I need to glue in the bezel and then sand off about half of its height to fit my PCB inside.

Lately I bought 20mm LEDs (the same type that can be found in OKKO Diablo), and their bezel won't take that much space inside a box.

I used one in a Hamptone-style jfet line driver. First time I gigged with it, people in the audience complained about the brightness~

I use them to look extra evil (like when you shine a flashlight under your chin while telling ghost stories around the campfire!).  Every time I step up to the pedal board, I look extra menacing  :icon_evil:!
