Dan Armstrong and Vox for inspiration. Plug straight into your guitar socket. No need for two 1/4" jack sockets then! I think some of the EH boosters were like this as well.
What can you get inside a 1/4" jack plug somehow connected to an external 1/4" jack socket with integral circuit and power supply? Does it have to have a switch? Does it have to be "through hole" technology? SM could be very small indeed! Then you might ask just how giggable it would be!

Some button cell batteries could be stacked inside a 1/4" jack...
