I'm aware that Ross Dist is basically the same thing as MXR Dist+ and the tan version of Ross Dist has germanium diodes inside, and I've seen a schem of the black cased unit that features 3 si diodes arranged for asymetrical clipping... And an another black cased ross dist schem with only two si diodes in antiparallel connection...

I'm just curios, which clipping method is actually used in the black unit? Symetrical or asymetricall?

If anybody here owns a black ross dist and doesn't mind taking a peek inside, I would be thankful!

Cheers!

I think they all were symetrical.
Most distortions were. Not just ross.

I have one somewhere. I will try to remember and check.

I have one that looks like this:

Before modded it had 3 silicon diodes arranged assymetrically.
Now it has 8 germ diodes arranged assymetrically, 5 and 3. And I doubled the size of the treble cut cap and output coupling cap. Sounds great for what it is. Maylasian 4558 type chip.

Asymmetrical - 2 si diodes and 1 ge in mine.

  Like this?:

     <SI<
That's what I have been using in DIST+.
