another fuzz face take...

Using bits and pieces of several fuzz face builds (the .044 cap over 1k2 resistor idea from fuzz central and the 50k "input bias" put from ggg) I put together a fuzz face.

Was WAY too boomy with the 2.2uF input cap. Put in a .1uF and WOW. Crunch and articulation.

I biased it up using a multimeter and didn't like it as much...then opened it up and used my ears while tweaking the 10k trimmer and all was golden.

This thing is my "semi-broken-up" sound pedal now. It has a ton of low mid bite (I don't know if that makes sense...when banging out chords on the bridge pickup it has a punch to it that is articulate and fat all at once) and also does the heavy gain thing pretty well.

I think my next step will be replacing the 1k pot with a reverse audio taper 1k so that the fuzz is a little more tweakable.

transistors are 2n2222 from Radio Shack.

How can I post a schematic?

Thanks,

Chris

Cool!

I use photobucket.com to store my pictures, that will allow you to post pictures here.
Or you can place them in the forum folder.  The info on how to do it is here.

and the three transistor and the rocket had the low pass filter before that(.01uf and 1K) and also had the 100 ohm emitter resistor before others

Very cool...I'll have to try these out. Thanks for the heads-up! How does the three tranny sound? anything like the tonebender?

I used fuzz central for most of the ideas for the mods. The amount of info about fuzz faces on the net is really helpful for the diyer...I just figured I'd post the schematic just for the sake of saying "hey this combo of bits and pieces worked for me"

Thats the Axis Face! almost to the tee.

Yup. Fuzz Central kicks butt. Fantastic resource. I just wanted to report my findings in what I liked in the sound. Believe me, In no way am I taking credit for the ideas.

Perhaps I should have said "Built what ended up being an Axis Face (found on fuzz central) and changed 1 or 2 component values and left out the 100pF cap between trannys. Different trannys too. Here's what I heard that I liked. Also wanted to try out the whole posting a schematic thing."

I actually started out with a standard NPN fuzz face schematic and changed one thing at a time until it clicked for me. Fuzz Central and GGG were the resources for what to try changing.

Your diagram looks good. What program did you use to draw it?

I used this...it's in the DIY FAQ:

It's pretty easy to learn...I just spent some time messing around with it until it worked.
