Yes I am sure that a lot of the issue is due to what I've (not) done...I have used my own layout... and as you can read, there are lots of little things to fix  :P ! I will check this on sunday :icon_cool:
Hi just remembered that I had the same type of problem with a low gain OP amp dist. By chanse I eound a sloppy solder joint. It conducted but created hizzy noise. BTW sheelding the OUT will only benefit the next pedal or Amp.
The only bad sounding stomp box is an unbuilt stomp box. ;-)
