Hey All,

The contest for who's guitar pedals get featured in this little book I'm doing starts next week! Starting next week I will be accepting submissions for the following builds:

1. Fuzz
3. Overdrive
5. Noise-Reduction
7. Equalization
9. Reverb

If you have put some hard time, money, and energy into a build that turned out great, make a submission! Voting will be in 2 weeks, and the winner will get their pedal featured in the apropo section of the book! See the link below for contest rules:

I'm hoping to get a lot of participation because I think this will be a great to chance to admire each others work, be reminded of some great builds, and pick up some tricks we may have missed the first time around!

Eric.

Do I get a free book if I win a photo place and a credit in the back?

100 photos, hundred free books in a few thousand print run ain't many I suppose.

Or if your book goes into second and third printings in the years ahead... do we get small bear vouchers?

I'm kinda second questioning myself about asking this but I'd love to know where you stand on the idea of royalties and suchlike.
Monkey see, monkey do.

are we talking coffee table picture book or how to?

It's a simple book that offers a brief synopsis of the different kinds of guitar effects, and what they do. I am more than happy to offer credits and 'advertizing' space in the back of the book (including diystompboxes.com). I don't know what will be involved as far as royalties and things go because I don't know if this will be anything more than a self-published project. If it is self-published, I can definitely get you a professional, print-quality, .pdf to take to a print-shop. I don't want to make any promises, because it's really too soon to say, but I'd love to offer whatever I can.

thereverend

if you go the self-publishing route check out booksurge.com

theres other self-publishing places out there but that's the one i've heard of before.
it's not a BURST BOX  it's a circuit box with burst button...

Just curious, what's the criteria for the recording?
Guitar -> Pedal -> Sound Card or recorder
Guitar -> Pedal -> Amp -> Microphone (Specific model i.e. SM57)
Guitar -> Pedal -> Digital Amp Sim

Do you want ambient effects i.e. reverb or used with modulation effects.

All these scenarios result in very different pedal tones.  Some pedals sound weak by themselves but great thru an amp or sim and on the flip side some sound great by them selves and lousy thru specific amps and or amp sims.

Most people including myself prefer the Guitar -> Pedal -> Recorder because miced amp and amp sims color the sound of the pedal BUT I also like to hear the pedal in all its glory matched up with a good amp and/or simulator setting.   ;)

It's a BOOK. He's talking about pictures. Not audio.  ;D

Thanks for answering that Eric, I may be cynical but I've a few people go a long way using what I've given them and they tended to forget my contribution to that very quickly... not saying thats where you're going but just wanted it said.

This could turn into a good thing for you, and I hope it does, after all this place in twenty years could go down in historical lore and I think for that reason alone its good to make sure all the details of contributors are made obvious  :icon_idea:

Sometimes it's even handy to realise that things do go places and can become mythology so it's an idea to keep this in mind when making something supposedly just to highlight now.

Exactly. I plan to (at least!) give full credit to the owners in the back of the book, and I'm fully willing to offer 'tasteful' advertising to you guys that do D.I.Y. for a little income (assuming your work is featured). I'm definitely trying to make sure that all foreseeable scenario's are thought of in advance.

Sorry for not being clear Tranceracer, it's totally just a shallow "Stomp-box Fashion Contest" sort of thing. After all of the copyright restrictions I've had to put in place, I'm not sure anyone would want to participate if they had to record the audio (or would they?).
