Selecting an IC for an Orange Squeezer made me some problems

Hello,

I've started to tweak an Orange Squeezer and  I began with changing the IC.
I've tested 3 ICs  and i observed that it matters a lot in the sound and biasing:

1. JRC4558 - enough squish, acceptable noise and easy to bias (this means that after a point almost any other position sounded OK)
2. NE5532 - a lot of squish, less noise, lot of squelch and hard to bias (after a first point a second attempted in which it sounded better, but it was very hard to find it)
3. LM833 - almost no noise, less squish and easy to bias (like JRC4558)

The behaviour of NE5532s (i've tested 3..they have different suffixes, but i forgot it...A and CN maybe) seems to me very strange: it squelches very much at a very low volume, but it has a fabulous squish in a very tight position.

It's this logically or my build has something wrong? Maybe i must to test anothers type of ICs?

Thx a lot all!

FlyingZ

I use a vintage Malaysia RC4558P.

I know, vintage smitange, but it my case the tone was undeniable.
