Hello. I want to add an electric mistress to my board. In the UK a used modern one is around £65-£75.

I remember reading somewhere on here that sometimes it isn't worth the expense or effort to build an effect. Would this be a good case of buy a used one rather than DIY it? Fron my quick research it seems the sad1024's are hard to come by and expensive.

Are the modern ones worth buying or do they need loads of mods??

Thanks for any views.

Woz.

118 for instant flange success = small price for Big Flange sound.
You could build it, I didn't see where modification would be needed on this flange, beyond what the 3 controls provide.

Besides, to build a Deluxe Electric Mistress you'd have to track down an SAD1024 chip, and I've seen those chips sell for more than the price of the DEM itself...

If somebody makes a mistake, help them understand what went wrong.  Show them how to do it right.  Be helpful.  Don't just say "you're wrong, moron."

I got a SAD1024  :P

I did have 2 but gave one away as a christmas present.  the Deluxe mistress has been on my too do list for months and months.  This just reminded me of it :)

Since I've breadboarded it I can only blame myself.

I've built one - re-built my old DEM, actually. Apart from the SAD1024, everything else is pretty cheap - you'll have to figure out what to use as an enclosure, of course.

The interesting part is: I've used a lot of parts I consider an improvement - large 105°C electrolytics, a lot of WIMAs, metalfilm all the way, better opamps... and I still have the same amount of noise and pretty much the same tone. Go figure :D

Be advised that there's a difference between models:

15V Mistress = http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=123&Itemid=26
