Leaky Big Muff (Pi)

Hello all!

I've recently got an old 1978 OP-Amp Big Muff Pi and so far am liking it a lot! There's just one thing that bugs me about it - it's leaky. Meaning when I bypass the pedal (non-TB, mind) I can still hear distortion coming through/a rather huge volume boost which causes the following pedals (Small Clone and analog delay) to clip and sound nasty and makes crystal clean sounds almost impossible. I've heard this is a common problem with these muffs, however.

Is there something I could change with the switching? Don't know if I want to convert it to TB - it is 31 years old...
Or would a Looper be more fitting/easier?

Cheers!

How much is it worth?

Since this is DIY...

1) I'd build a True Bypass looper...always useful, and necessary to appropriately a/b the following option...

Breadboard a clone of an op-amp muff, and and see how close you can get it to sounding the one you have, side by side. If that build meets your liking, then you can build one, and sell the original for a profit, knowing ythat ou've got all the tone in there, but built it yourself, and have cash in pocket  :)

If not, than like you said, I would use the said looper to switch it in and out...though, if your using it live, do you really want it out of the house?
Breadboard it!

I Have IC Big Muffs, they are'nt worht much really, $100-$150. Just TB it, problem solved.
Pedals are meant to be played, not looked at and if its not working right fix it!

Besides, I've never seen added TB to a vintage Big Muff devalue it yet.

Hmm...I guess I'll just go for it then - if you TB'd any IC Muffs before, could you give me a quick run-down of which cables need to go where? I have the 78 Tone Bypass/PCB version.
