Dear all,

While performing some mods to an Ibanez TS10 - http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/ibanez/10/ts10 I replaced the the LED. I soldered it in with the proper polarity and it doesn't work. Well, not entirely. It does turn on, but sooooooooooo dim that I can only see it when i hold the pedal right in front of me in a completely dark room. I replaced the led and same thing happened. What can be the reason? At this schematic: http://www.freeinfosociety.com/electronics/schematics/audio/pictures/ibanezts10.gif Should I start poking around Q5?
Thank you!

The original pedal probably had a high-efficiency LED - which means that the brightness will be about the same as a normal LED at a much lower current. To get the same brightness, you need to up the current into the LED, and that means lowering the 3.6k resistor. Try putting a 1k one in instead, see if that works?

Did you replace a red with a blue or white?   Look at the voltage drops ranges each color has.  If the schematic is correct

http://www.schematicheaven.com/effects/ibanez_ts10_tubescreamer.pdf

3.5VDC  for a blue + 3VDC zener is 6.5VDC only leaving 2.5VDC(9VDC -6.5VDC=2.5VDC) for the transistor on voltage drop and the 3.6K current control resistor(ignoring the transistor drop 2.5VDC / 3.6k = about .7ma)

What happens if you reinstall the stock LED?
