i built up a ROG Omega on Perfboard, boxed it up prototype like for something quick, only to discover the switch was bad.

that was a waste of 2 hrs.  (edit) and no spare switches, go figure.   :(

Er, why not just replace the switch? If the rest of it's fine, your work wasn't in vain.

aziltz

haha, simple right?  i just don't have any spares right now, it was an old switch.  i was building out of boredom and hadn't really planned on it.

Just hardwire your jacks to the ins/outs and you still get to rock out!
Try a little tenderness.

A waste of two hours? Look on the bright side - when you next get some switches you'll be thinking "all I need to do is solder up one of these and I've got my Omega"!
Bringing you yesterday's technology tomorrow.

you think thats disappointing.....today I went to a car boot sale and found a hofner guitar right from the 1960s and it was in mint condition and the lady only wanted 450 Euros for it and I couldnt afford it cos I am saving up for a jcm 800......now thats disappointing!!!!!! lol  ;D >:(

Yeah, come to think of it, I've had much worse disappointments lately - the other day I etched and drilled a whole page of PCBs, then realized that the computer I used to print from (different from usual) had sized everything up by like 5%. So all my boards were unusable because the ICs wouldn't fit.

Pry the tabs on the switch (gently), clean the rocker contacts inside with a cotton swab, and re-assemble.  A LOT of stompswitches appear to "go bad" because poor soldering technique melts the dab of grease inside.

Surely you can make some kind of daughterboard? I managed to solder an SMD chip (which I ordered by mistake) to a small piece of perf, with cut off resistor leads flying to the IC socket. Getting regular through hole ICs to fit in something even bigger should be easy.

Just buy some wire wrap IC sockets, these have longer legs than normal sockets so you will probably be able to bend the legs enough to make them fit.
