Ahhhh,The Music Machine....
IMO ,the Ultimate fuzztone sound, the sound that i am looking for years and still haven't found, is ......The Music Machine - Trouble.
Just listen to it and tell me what the ?#$? is this....
BTW i have the vinyl ''Bonniwell Music Machine - Ignition". Somewhere on the back it says "Keith Olsen - Bass,Vocals,Fuzz-Designer"!!!
It was 1966-1967.

Nah, you're all wrong.  It's this one, around the 1:50 mark   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6jeQUbovjI
...or maybe this one, pretty much the whole way through.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=za1e_PEofdE

Hafta say the Holding Company knew well how to use Fuzz in a most gut-wrenching manner, works quite well against a backdrop of solid rythms made from fine artistry/musicianship.
The Electric Prunes and Strawberry Alarm Clock made some interesting entries, fuzz w/tremolo and other 'oddities' in the mix.
I find it's a bit hard to define psychadelic in music, Fripp did some flipp runs with King Crimson, 21rst Century Schitzoid Man...
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Yeah, I think you win there.  Sam Andrew says here that they used Standell amps and Fuzz Faces: http://www.thepsychedelicguitar.com/andrew.htm

Great job, Doug! Just got done slamming it on the breadboard and was not disappointed..... I could tell you put some effort into  finding the sixties "psych/garage" fuzz sound. I tried mucking about with the 47k that's coming out of Q2 to raise the fuzz volume more, but I then realized the mix is perfect as is. I think I'll save the trimmer and just throw a 100k resistor from output to ground... a true no-knobber!
Thanks for sharing your efforts, looking forward to what you come up with next.

Hi
Given the feedback paths and various filtering in this, I couldn't "see" what the frequency response would be.  For example, the input cap would have to be filtering a lot of bass, given the low input impedance of the PN2222.  But how much?  So I did a bit of LTSPICE ing and found (if I did this right) that this circuit has a quite large hump in the upper mids (500 to 1kHz).   100 Hz is about 10 dB down and 10kHz is 15 dB down (deep down!).

Here's the AC analysis.  http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=40187&g2_serialNumber=1

Hi
although this is a simple project, I thought I'd knock together a PCB.  Here's a tiny PCB that mounts on the volume pot.
There's what it looks like:

GREEN FUZ

You read my mind. I`ll have to build it now.

I'm a fan of the Companion circuit but it's not on my breadboard at the moment...anyone put up a soundclip to see how it compares?

doug, i wish i knew more, too!  that thing has always been a mystery to me.

WhenBoredomPeaks

For me it sounds like a boost on the lower frequencies and a fuzz on the high frequencies blended.

Amirite?
