simple (?) pot question (alpha)

hey guys,

i have a few alpha pots that have a little "nub" on them that prevents them from being mounted flush against the inside wall of my pedal enclosure. my first thought was that this allows you to stamp/drill a small notch inside the enclosure so the pot couldn't spin. but that seems overly elaborate. so what's the deal with this? and do all pots have them?

thanks for humoring me on this newb-esque question

in my experience(very little  ;D) that IS the reason for those, but I just break them off...that's just how I roll

That's exactly what they're for. A few people around here actually do that. I don't because I always board mount my pots. If you don't want to use the 'nub' you can just break it off with a pair of pliers.

Most pots I've used seem to have those tabs.  I always just cut them off with my Dremel.

A friend of mine was raised by a pair of dykes (true) and they busted stuff all the time.
Definitely just bust them off. I use pliers... still a bit scared of the other tool mentioned.. :P
