I use 4 inch high quality needle craft scissors, bought in a sewing machine shop. Those, and diagonal pliers are without doubt the tools I use the most. $15 for a pair of scissors is... actually worth it.  :o

I use a Craftsman Professional wire stripper I got from Sears for ~$15. It does AWG solid from 20-30 and stranded from 22-32. Works really good. Looks like the following http://tinyurl.com/mqtxq6 except it has black and red grips and of course smaller gauge stripping cutters.

I use these...

Simple, quick, accurate and no nicks in the wire cores, so no breakages.
...you fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way...

+1 IMO, there is no better balance of comfort, precision, and speed of use than you can get from this style of cutter. I've gone through 3 pairs of them in the past 12 years (they get dull after a million or so uses  :icon_razz: ), and I'll never use anything else if I don't have to.

You can get them just about anywhere--just keep an eye out, and they are marked for gauges. I have 2 pairs--one gauged larger and one smaller. The smaller one gets used for most of my stompbox work, and the larger one is perfect for the house/car/heavy duty/whatever work I have.

Something like that combine with a lighter...score the wire with the cutter, light'hem up a bit and the ''sheat'' are removed easily.

No more nicks on my thumbs nail, so i can make myself french manicure again!  :P

I picked up a 'Stripmaster' at a garage sale and it's by far the best purchase I've made for diy - I'm pretty sure they come in a range of sizes, mine strips stranded 22 awg with no problem. You might need a size smaller for 24.

I don't know how much they go for new but I picked mine up used for $1.

I've had good luck with these on Teflon wire and they work even better on pvc wire.

ayayay!

Harbor Freight baby.  And how are you gonna beat $1.99?  I use/still have the types above for years, but with this one you can fine tune it to your type of wire better.

Well, I bought some of these,  http://www.abbeypowertools.co.uk/draper-miscellaneous/wire-tools/showitem-7691-55806.aspx

ABSOLUTE PANTS,

The jaws can't hold the wire, it just slips through, there is a recoil action which make the cutters seperate as you start squeezing.

MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN. Back to shopping.
