Mainly looking for small-er-ish circuits using this chip, don't wanna trash it.

Not looking for anything along the lines of the distortion+ as far as the amount of parts, just something nice and small.

Any help?

One of my first builds were the Tube Reamer from Runoffgroove.com.

The first version uses a 741 as far as I remember. I later build a version 2 using a 4558 but I preferred version 1.

Do you have the v1 schem you used?

A buffer is easy to make, cheap and always useful. Put it in front of your true by pass pedal board or after it to boost the signal trough a long cable to the amp to eliminate loss of tone instead of expensive cables.  No pots, no stomp switch needed. Or integrate it in another box.

The only bad sounding stomp box is an unbuilt stomp box. ;-)

I have a wah circuit using a 741 chip (without inductor). I built it, I liked the tone. I counted the parts, only 18 (nothing special, only resistors, caps and the 741) + 2 pots + I used 2 small caps for compensation, as I replaced the 741 with a NE5534 for less noise. If you use the 741, you won't need them, I think. I can search for it if you want, it was in a book, I still have it somewhere.

I think I have a print of it. I'll check it when I get home.

i built a rustdriver with a 741. i have about 20 741's and would like some smaller circuits too. i've built a few dod250's and like messing around with them. i've also heard of some using the 741's in the rat.
When your life is over, will any of this STUFF really matter?

I like the way the 741 sounds in the rat.

ppatch, if you have that many 741s, you need to build a gristleizer :) check out the gaussmarkov project on it. I'm waiting for my enclosure to come back from John Lyon's powdercoating oven. Once I get that, it'll be done. Very cool project, but it uses 5 741s :)

If you're looking for basic op-amp circuits to build on, go to your library and look up the "IC OpAmp Cookbook" printed by Howard W. Sams (the newer Prentice-Hall editions are crap).
Almost every op-amp-based distortion, booster, filter, whatsit is based on some circuit that can be found in that book, and since it's all 'building block' type circuit snippets, the parts count is minimal.
It's like a two-inch thick version of the OpAmp Circuit Collection.

Since we're on the topic of 741's, has anybody found any real use for messing with the "offset null" connections on a 741?
I've always wondered if some kind of audio mojo could be had by adding an offset adjustment pot, but never got around to trying it.
I'm not at home right now, so I can't just fiddle with it myself, so I might as well ask here.

The tube reamer is pretty cool. I switched the 5k pot for a 25k, it gave me more "mild overdrive" sounds which was preferable. Very few parts!

thanks jacob! i'll check it out.

Here it is.

I found another one with less parts in another book if you're interested.

humptydumpty

I'd like to see that one too, if possible.

Thank you sir.

Bemenet means in, kimenet means out. R5 is a dual gang potmeter. R8 is for positive feedback control. I think the rest is understandable.

Glad to help... Perhaps I'll use the first wah as a tone filter (so not in a expression pedal but a normal box) because I'll get my hands on a Dunlop Crybaby the day after tomorrow ;D  Well, I'll have to fix it because it's noise, but if it's unrepairable, at least I can use the pedal house for another wah.

humptydumpty

the crybabys okay, too harsh of a range stock though
