Accidently bought some knobs that only fit 6mm pot shafts (ie not alphas). Anyone know of an easy way of reaming out that extra 0.3 mm without completely destroying the knob or set screw thread?

I did the same once. I put them in a vice (surrounded by card to protect them) and drilled them out. Not ideal, and a steady hand is required. No problem with the set screw though.

yeah tried drilling in vice method but perhaps I don't have quite as steady a hand as you...  :(

damn shame as these are some beautiful knobs I bought in Tokyo, akihabra electric town.

I had some set screw knobs that wouldn't quite fit over a rotary switch shaft.  If the shafts are plastic just take some wet and dry paper to them.
Actually, for only 0.3 mm, that might work for splined shafts too.

unfort these are the standard metal alpha 16mm pots... only option is too try to remove some material from the brass knob insert... I will try the drill in  vice method again and see if i get better results

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
