Boss Metal Zone malfunction Advice?

I have a Boss Metal Zone that has failed.

The bypass works fine, but when the pedal is in use, the sound is cut to 1/10. I can hear it working, if I am against the amp. All knobs function and light comes on. It is just anemic.

Pedal is 2+ years old, covered by warranty (useless actually because it only covers parts after 90days!)

Does this sound like something that can be fixed easily? Should I just junk it? or is there a "recycle service" for these?

My first two guesses would be the little momentary bypass switch or something might be wrong with the FET flip-flop circuit.

I would suggest building an audio probe and tracing the signal path. Start at the bypass switch and the FET flip-flop circuit. I have a hunch that's probably where your problem is likely to be.

I can actually make that and I have the skill to do it, at least if there is some instruction. Do you know where I can find a schematic that has the signal train?
