ive got another pot question. on this example the volume pot pot is 100k but do i have to add the resistor or is that resistor the pot.
hope you get what i mean.

thanks

If it isn"t shown then it isn"t used , in this case it isn"t shown ...

I don't think this answers the question.

To answer the question, the resistor IS the pot. Any time you see what looks like a resistor with an arrow pointing at it, the two sides of the resistor are pins 1 and 3 on the pot, and the arrow is pin 2 (the wiper).

If you see one side of the resistor tied to the arrow, then you tie pin 1 or 3 to pin 2, which then technically makes the pot a "rheostat." This isn't the case in this circuit, but it is good to know because it happens commonly in other circuits.

would that mean that you could take the bias control off of the board by making a rheostat with the pot.

also while im at it how would you put the trimmer in this example. i.e the bias control

You could take the bias off the board and make it a pot, it's done often in fuzz face circuits. A trimmer and a pot are essentially the same thing, except a trimmer is a good deal smaller and is usually controlled by a screw driver or something. Kind of like a set it and forget it pot. The trimmer has 3 'lugs' which opperate the same way as a pot, it's just mounted to the board and usually isn't accesable from the outside.

R1, R2 and R11 can all either be pots or trimmers, but the volume and gain are the most tweeked, so usually they are pots, and since in most normal applications you don't tweek a bias, that is a trimmer.

ahh yeah i totlally get that thanks man
