Okay. First off, it's been a while since I've been here. I hope you all are well!

Here's the business. I'm thinking of doing a remote switch for a stereo loop with a remote tap control. I want to put a Boss DD-7 into the individual effects loops of my 2 JCM800 2203 RI heads. I've been reading everything I can find on the remote switching subject. However, no one has done a stereo loop.

Here are my requirements:

The loop box
1.) 1 stereo loop
2.) 9v supply
3.) Tap out to pedal
4.) Tap control in
5.) Loop on/off input
6.) individual send/returns for the pedal
7.) individual send/returns for the amps
8.) LED indicator for loop on

The foot switches
1.) 2 small individual boxes
2.) Connections to loop box to be made by individual standard 1/4" cable
3.) LED indicator on loop on/off switch

Here are my questions:

1.) Is it possible to drive 2 relays or CD4066 electronic switches from one CD4013 flip/flop circuit?
2.) If I put the 4013 in the loop on/off foot switch box, and use 2- CD4066's in the loop box, how do I get and LED indicator in the loop box? Or the other way around?
3.) Should I use a 4PDT Relay for stereo?
4.) Is there an IC that I can use like a 4PDT?
5.) Momentary or latching switch in the loop on/of foot switch? (I realize this will depend on the circuit, I'm just looking for the simplest way to do it)

That's all I can come up with right now.
Thanks in advance guys.

I didn't start playing the guitar to get rich and famous, so far it's workin' out just fine.

Can you use a DPDT for both channels and have a common ground?

As for latching relays it would depend on your relay control method I guess. I think latching would help with battery life if it will tend to stay in the same position for long periods. If it will run off batteries that is.

I don't need it to run on batteries. I just need it to run on a 9v DC supply.

Bump. Come guys. You're smarter than I am.  Please help me on this.

A stereo loop is just a mono loop with more relay contacts. The control aspects are the same: you need a switch to control things, you need to debounce the switch, you need to wire the switch to the relay coil driver(s), and the driver needs enough zoots to drive the relay(s). What you do with the resulting contacts is up to you, and stereo is a simple doubling of mono.

You'll be using lots of jacks.  :icon_biggrin:

1.) Is it possible to drive 2 relays or CD4066 electronic switches from one CD4013 flip/flop circuit?
In general, no. Check the datasheets of the relays you will use and the CMOS logic you'll use and look for how much current the relay coils need, versus how much current the output pins of the CMOS can drive. With few exceptions, CMOS output drive is smaller than relays need. So you'll have to have some kind of additional driver, such as a bipolar or MOSFET driver to boost the current from the CMOS logic.

Read the GEOFEX articles on remote effects switching.

3.) Should I use a 4PDT Relay for stereo?
Yes, or two DPDT relays driven by the same signal.

Quote4.) Is there an IC that I can use like a 4PDT?
Yes. However those are hard to find. You can use two CD4053s; these are 3PDT switches. But they're very easy to drive. Again, read geofex.com.

Either latch in the footswitch and make a dumb remote relay driver, or make a dumb footswitch and have a smart remote relay driver. It's really about the same either way.
