Yes, what is the essence of a glassy sound...doesn't seem to be just a case of turning up the treble, at least it doesn't work for me.

Well it's a bit like that thing I heard that time...
Really similar (though a little different).

Give us some examples and maybe we can help.  I've never heard the term "glassy" used for guitar tone.

really? never?

I heard it on something the other day, can't for the life of me remember what it was but it was definitely 80's stuff  I'll try and find something similar, but I thought I'd just throw the question out there for the hell of it.

I guess most guitarists will know what glassy means...I think

anchovie

I've heard it used in reference to the tone of certain pickups, also sometimes called "bell-like". The gold Lace Sensor is marketed as supposedly sounding like this.

I wouldn`t associate glassy with bell-like. I guess that`s the problem when one uses vague indeterminate adjectives. Everyone has their own interpretation of what they are supposed to be describing.

Would glassy be akin to brittle? :-\ ??? ;D

When I hear the term glassy, I think sparkling clean, like a fender reverb deluxe or something that just has that clean sound that makes you feel as though you've gone to paradise.

I've heard it for 80's fendery-clean sounds and to describe John Mayer's Two-Rock tone.

I'm guessing it has something to do with strats or teles...or anything with single coils and a good clean tone.

Cristalline? Brighter? Depends of you rig...On mine, i turn the amp bass and treble up to 7 or 9 and no mids at all...select the pickup to taste (depends of your setup...i would say bridge pickup) add some reverb and you should be near it i guess. Single coil in a fender twin reverb must be the secret ingredient i think.

Edit: Woohooooo 600th post...just 66 before satan got me! ::)
I know, but the pedal i built does not boost...it just increases volume!

"clean-2" from a rockman - perhaps.

hmmm...strat or tele into a bright amp, bridge pickup, slow chorus or vibe w/ a shallow mix.

Mmm, Tina Turner's legs are glassy! But hey, but if she's my private dancer, what's love got to do with it? :icon_redface:

Toddy

PS That guitar is very 80s sounding. Probably chorus, delay, reverb, and a Steinberg, or Jackson trendy axe.

aron

The glassy tone is usually a Strat into a Fender amp, sometimes in neck+middle, turn up the treble/mid. AFAIK it's a Strat reference.

Okay, now that we've solved that can anyone tell me how to get haunting mids?
