McMeat vtl5c3 replacement?

Could i just use a LED/LDR in the McMeat project? I dont like ordering from a bunch of place's...

Sure, just make sure you match the light and dark resistance as closely as you can.  One thing  I find helpful is to use a resistor in parallel with an LDR to get the correct dark resistance.  This typically won't alter the light resistance very much.
