Dr Boogey or Boogeyman?

I had a buffer circuit put into my guitar by one of my local guitar tech friends and it made a pretty significant difference in terms of noise. The lower output impedance seems to eliminate issues with crappy cables and really cut down on noise and buzz, as well as retaining that high end I seemed to be losing when using even what are supposed to be pretty decent cables. I can now comfortably use what I guess are middlin' quality cables (Rapco, anyone?) and have had absolutely no issues in terms of tone loss and far less issues with noise and buzz, especially with high-gain pedals and amps.

Higher output pickups (anything from Seymour Duncan JBs or Alternative 8's to yes, even EMGs) seem to really benefit from a buffer circuit, especially when using a 1Mohm pot on those passives. I think that onboard electronics, for that reason, should pretty much be an essential part of any guitarist's rig... but even having a buffer in front of a circuit like the Dr Boogey seems to basically be the way to go....

My 2c, at least.
