I successfully finished Dr Boogey. Now i want a cab sim. I previously made Jim Ramder's Marshall Cab Sim but iam not satisfied by it. Can u suggest any cab sim other that works best with stompboxes like Dr Boogey. I will use home recording and some time stereo speaker(portability ;) ).

Thanks

Joe

This isn't a true cab simulator, but worked okay for me. The 220k's + .001uF form a slew-rate limiting network which takes some of the harshness out:

ROG's condor seems to be a good one.  Also, dschwartz here on the forum has done one or two.  Just use the search function and see what you find.

i read some thing like multicab sim. How is that ?? And where i can pcb layout.

A second order filter to take out some of the highs is often enough. Still, if you're looking for something more realistic or tweakable...

What about :
Distortion pedal---»
Simple sim amp sim---»
Conder cab sim---»
Distorque speaker sim  in that order.

I've built the Condor and Drschwartz multicab sim and they are both very nice with the Dr. Boogie.  The Condor has more bass but the multicab sim is very versatile.  I actually put them both in the same enclosure (along with the SSS) and made them selectable with the SSS switchable.

I use my Dr Boogey with the Multicab sim, it works very well and gives a rather wide range of usable sounds.

Great thread! I've been looking for a simple cab sim for a long time, thanks!

Not to steal the thread, but if you plugged this into your amp, would that sound like arse?  I'll be using it in the studio for practice, but was curious what it would do to the front end of an amp.  Anyone?

Hey Cynical Man, which would sound better in that:  a 4049 or 4558s?  I ask because I've got lots of both, but have never built anything using a 4049 and have no idea what they will sound like.

I don't know how you'd intend to use 4049s, but since i designed the circuit for op amps, I would suggest the 4558s.

Well clearly, I've never used a 4049 before.  One quick glance and I see they're inverters, not opamps.   ::)   Sorry.

The Dr. Boogie into the cab sims into my 5150 stack sounds like crap.  :)  Like a broken EQ or something.  Not for me.

Cab sims are supposed to simulate the EQ curve of a speaker. When you run your signal through a cab sim and a speaker, you are doubling that equalization, causing that "broken EQ" effect.

i designed a cmos version of the multicabsim like a year ago...pretty simple. i never built it, but B. tremblay did and said it worked very nice. i´ll post it when i found it

No no, I know that.  That's the answer I was hoping for.  If everything sounded nice and smooth, then I wouldn't bother with it.  A sim should not sound good as an "effect into an amp."  What I'm trying to avoid is these so-called sims that are built crappy Multi-FX products, that sound no different than plugging a guitar or stompbox direct into a mixer.   All of these so far look great, but I'm leaning towards yours CynicalMan, due to the bass & mid controls.

Agree on that. Try if you can run the cab sim into a FRFR speaker like those in PA, it may give you the simulation better co'z FRFR are FLAT RESPONSE.
